a bit of history
In 2014 we purchased our first Percheron horses. Jimi fell in love with a sale photo of a Percheron stallion online, after over a year from seeing that photo (at Wayne's insistence) she contacted the seller and we purchased Windermere's Kingdom along with a mare and a young filly. Those three horses started us on this crazy journey. Kingdom was such an advocate for his breed, an amazingly intelligent, fiery, athletic stallion who was full of heart. He was a magnificent and powerful animal but was also gentle enough to give pony rides to our nieces and nephews. He made us fall in love with this breed and started the drive we have today to produce similar horses for others to love. Kingdom unfortunately tragically passed away only a few years after he came to us.
We have since moved forward with our breeding program by adding Windermere's Never Break The Chain as our herd sire. Chain is out of Windermere's Rosie (who shares her sire, Windermere's King Cong, with our Kingdom) and by the famous stallion Windermere's North American Maid.
Chain has produced lovely Percheron and Percheron sport horse foals for us and our clients. We look forward to continuing to see strong conformation, fantastic athleticism, keen intelligence and an amazing willingness to learn and please from his foals in the future.
We currently have our main focus on our percheron breeding program but have added a few light mares for sport horses and have started working with a few Shire mares as well. Percherons will always remain our passion but some people are not prepared to own a full draft and the sport horses can be a way for them to experience the amazing traits of this breed without the intimidating size and feed bill. Our small detour to the Shires comes from an impulse purchase of a Shire mare and a love for the breed. The Shire breed is in desperate need of breeders and advocates as their numbers are very low. Since we have a few mares we feel breeding them is the responsible thing to do and will endeavor to add a small Shire program to our future goals. Percheron however will always remain the main focus here at Shadowstone Acres.
